Purchasing the land in 2004, the property owners were inspired to share the natural and spectacular scenery and untouched Australian bushland with others.

Their vision to create an eco-friendly, off-the-grid, sustainable wilderness camp and tranquil ecotourism destination was realised.

Unfortunately, in February 2019, the Twin Peaks Wilderness Camp site, in Bald Rock Wilderness Area was ravaged and devastated by bushfire.

Bald Rock Wilderness Area after the 2019 bushfires.

The 2019 New South Wales bushfires were the most extreme and widespread fires ever experienced in Australia.

Causing extensive damage to untapped landscapes, diverse ecosystems and the habitats of many threatened species, the fires affected up to 90 to 100 per cent of the Bald Rock, Boonoo Boonoo and Basket Swamp national parks with 44,000 hectares burning to the ground in over 10 days. Consequently, the opening of Twin Peaks Wilderness Camp, scheduled to launch at the end of 2019, has been delayed.

The Bald Rock Wilderness Area and campsite location are home to stunning wildflowers, rocky outcrops, wetland areas and old-growth Australian forests – some trees hundreds of years old. Native fauna such as koalas, quolls, echidnas, platypuses, eastern grey kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and dingoes, along with birds including the powerful owl, eagles, cockatoos and parrots can be spotted in these forests, but sadly numbers and sightings have declined following the bushfires.

What was once green, lush wilderness, now blackened and burnt.

Efforts to rehabilitate and rejuvenate the Bald Rock Wilderness Area, old growth forests, flora and habitats at the Twin Peaks Wilderness campsite currently underway.

Plans to re-establish Twin Peaks Wilderness Camp are progressing and work is continuing on important bushfire recovery and rehabilitation activities including planting of seeds, seedlings and trees; rescuing and monitoring injured wildlife and providing them with supplementary food, water and shelter while the natural habitats recover; and restoring and rebuilding damaged property.

The Twin Peaks Wilderness Camp has a great project vision – driving economic growth, stimulating tourism spend for the region and employing volunteers and locals to help rejuvenate the area following the devastating 2019 bushfires.
